Recovery #397

I got a text from fellow Ring Finder Dave Milsted asking if I could help with a recovery in Belmar. I was just getting off work so I told him to send me the contact information and I gave them a call. Milica told me that she lost her rings the day before in the ocean while at Belmar. Milica and her husband were in Philly visiting family, they are from Serbia. They decided to spend the day at Belmar to enjoy the beach, while there she went for a dip in the ocean. There was a slight drop off getting into the water and she only got a short distance from shore before she got knocked over by a wave. When getting back up she noticed her rings were no longer on her finger. She was devastated, turns out her engagement ring was made from a family heirloom diamond handed down to her from her grandfather. She thought she would never see it again. Her husband told the area he thought they were sitting at the time it happened. I headed right down to the beach seeing I had an hour left of low tide, went to where he told me but after over an hour of searching I didn’t have any luck. I called to let them know and asked if they could meet me the following day to show me the the area and they agreed. I went back down after work and when I walked on the beach where I was before but didn’t see anyone. Looking down the beach I saw a couple a block down waving to me. Turns out I was in the wrong area the day before. After talking with them i entered the water and started detecting. After an hour of going back and forth I wasn’t having any luck, now its been 3 days the rings were in the water. Then I got a faint signal, good one but real low. I checked it out and I saw the wedding band in the scoop. Checked the hole again and there was the engagement ring in the scoop. Seems they sank in the soft sand after 3 days in the surf. I had them on my pinky and left the water saying I was tired, and I guess she thought I was giving up, sad look on her face, them she looked down and saw her rings and let out a scream, started crying and gave me the biggest hug, saying thank you over and over. All of JOY. I’m so glad I was able to reunite her with her beloved rings. It was a great feeling for both of us. I didn’t have my phone to take pictures on the beach but she sent me some herself.

Great Happy Ending

Recovery #396

Yesterday I was contacted by Jessica in Millstone NJ. She was referred to me by someone I helped in the past on their local community page. Hoping I could help, She reached out to me and I made arrangements with her to come out to her and her Fiancées horse farm. At some point she realized her beloved Pendant that her late Father had custom made for her was missing. She wasn't sure if it came off while attending to the horses or when she was thrown while practicing her jumps. Apparently her horse Cory decided he was ready before her. The next morning she realized the pendant was gone. First she tried searching with a detector she bought from harbor freight. No luck unfortunately. Her Fiancee had mentioned seeing if there is someone out there more experienced in this area and that is where I come in. It was quite a bit of property to cover so I started with the most likely areas, Including where she fell. The first area did not have it, The next was the ring area. She showed me where she went down so I searched there as well to no avail. Ready to call it a day and come back another time, I usually turn off the machine and carry it back. But this time I had a feeling and decided to detect all the way back to my truck. Within 5mins of that I had a great sounding target. Dug it out and sure enough, It was her pendant! I put all my gear in the truck. Walked back towards Jessica and we met at the gate for the ring. I asked her if she was sure she fell in that spot. She replied yes. I said well, It's not where you fell, But it was in the ring! I opened my hand to show her I found it. She was in shock! Oh my god! You found it! And with a great big hug came a, I don't believe it! Thank you so much! I told her it was meant to be, About the feeling in my gut. I think your dad gave me a little guidance.. I am so happy I was able to help! Another happy ending!

Recovery #395!

Its all about doing the right thing for your fellow person….. Received a call at 6:30am from Taishia explaining that she had lost her keys while taking her kids down to the beach around 5:30pm Sunday afternoon. She continued to explain that she had already spent the evening in her car, with her two kids, Sunday night and was essentially “stranded” as she had no spare and couldnt afford to purchase a replacement FOB. She also asked, “what do you charge” and i explained that i only work on tips, to which she replied , “I dont have much”, I said dont worry about $, lets see what we can do. After work, first thing Monday morning, I met up with Taishia and we began searching for her key. This particular beach in Wildwood has TONS of targets and trash due to all the different venues that use that beach thru out the season. It was a particularly slow process but low and behold we spotted the keys sticking out of the sand! Taishia was beyond elated and relieved, as you can imagine. Interestingly she told me that she had spoken to another “detectorist” on Sunday that didnt want to come out, or as she put it in her words “be bothered as I dont have a lot of money”. That is a real shame in my eyes, I do what I do, when I can, because ITS THE RIGHT THING TO DO, yes tips are nice but how can you not help a mother and her children when stuck in a situation like this? Even if you tried and came up empty handed you still at least “tried”. I dunno, not everything is about interviews and self proclaimed fame. I have a very small operation which is based on FB and The Ring Finders website. Is it nice to recover a missing wedding ring for someone OF COURSE, but its not always about the easy or fast recoveries. Moral of the story BE KIND, DO THE RIGHT THING, even when no one is watching! From your LOCAL, full time EXPERT RECOVERY DETECTORIST……. Be well all….
